    two big trips

    Wednesday, July 25th, 2007

We took two big trips in the early July.

We first visited my aunt in New Jersey for a few days. Cyrus had never climbed stairs before but he did so naturally when we were at my aunt’s house. He didn’t know how to get down though.

We had a very nice time walking at the Hudson River Waterfront Walkway. You can see Manhattan from there. The river sometimes smells bad but the scenery can’t be beat.

Staying with my aunt and uncle is fun in the way that they make really good food. However, it’s got kind of stressful after a while. They like to feed Cyrus EVERYTHING and make it sound like we’ve been starving him at home. “Look! He keeps eating. He must haven’t had anything this good before!” they said. Well, we’ve been trying to feed Cyrus plain and natural food. Of course they don’t taste as good as oily and salty noodles.

One good thing coming out of this trip is that we noticed how much Cyrus loves noodles. He could also handle some food that requires a little bit of chewing like really tender chicken or fish.

We took another trip a week later to visit my friend in Denver, Colorado. The flight over there wasn’t too bad. (Maybe because Cyrus had a good night sleep?) My friend and her husband are great hosts, preparing three meals for us everyday. Their son Jeffrey is three months older than Cyrus. They didn’t exactly play together but Jeffrey seemed to motivate Cyrus to take a few more steps.

The first night there Cyrus didn’t sleep very well. We didn’t bring his pack and play so he was in a completely strange place. He cried and cried. All a sudden, we heard Jeffrey started crying too. My friend told me the next morning that’s because he heard Cyrus’ crying. It happened again on the 2nd day. Cyrus was waking up from a nap and started crying. Jeffrey ran to see him and started crying after a few seconds. Very interesting.

We went to Rocky Mountain over the weekend and stayed at a cabin for one night. The Mountain was breathtaking. I wish we could have stayed longer there. The weather was gorgeous when we left for the park but it got cloudy in the evening when we were at the top of the mountain. It’s above tree line and all we can see is tundra. Even though the sky looked quite dark, we still decided to take Cyrus with us for a quick walk on a trail. My friend and her husband decided they wanted to wait in the car since Jeffrey’s nose was running.

I only got to take a few of pictures before the rain started coming down. We turned around quickly but it was too late. We suddenly realized it’s not rain but hail. Strong wind and hail pounded on us and we tried very hard to move forward. Although the backpack Cyrus was in had a shade to protect him from getting wet, it didn’t really work during such horrible situation. I could tell Cyrus was getting wet and he started crying until I held his hand with my left hand.

We were all soaking wet and cold when we finally made it to the car. I tried to change Cyrus’ clothes but he didn’t want anything other than nursing at that point. I eventually managed to get him in dry clothes while I nursed. I was so relieved when he finally fell asleep.

We spent the 2nd day in the park hiking. We’d learned our lesson and had a not-late start.

After we got back to Denver, we spent a day checking out their downtown aquarium and walking around in downtown. I think Cyrus did look at the fish in the aquarium.

The flight on the way home was much worse. Cyrus was crying/screaming for a long time and we actually got some complaint. The old lady was complaining how I didn’t do anything when he was crying. There wasn’t really much I could do because he always cries himself to sleep.

Trip to Denver was quite relaxing other than the fact that we probably should have brought his pack and play for him to sleep in. He sleeping schedule was totally messed up.

    11 months old

I’ve been way for a while. We took a couple of long trips. Packing and unpacking. Cleaning the house. I simply didn’t have time to update my journal.

I wanted to write down a lot of things though. Cyrus is 11 months old. When we visited my aunt in New Jersey, he climbed the stairs like it’s nothing. He’d never done it before that. I was so impressed. He’s been sleeping through the night. I don’t need to nurse from midnight until 6am. I finally get to have a long stretch of sleep. So nice!!!

On July 8th, two days before he turned 11 months old, I saw him taking the first step!! I was so excited and gasp. He then looked at me and sat down. On the day he turned 11 months, he finally took a couple of small steps towards me. I was so thrilled. He’s been taking a couple of steps here and there. I am wondering when he is going to actually WALK.
