Lilypie Fourth Birthday tickers Lilypie 1st Birthday Ticker

first week at day care

This is the first week Cyrus at day care. It wasn’t easy but it’s getting better. (Keep my fingers crossed.)

He didn’t eat much anything there the first couple of days. For two days he only had yogurt I brought over for lunch. He didn’t want to drink anything either. We were so worried that he didn’t get enough food and nutrition.

Over the weekend, DH and I did the brain storming and came up with a list of ideas we could think of to help Sharon feed Cyrus. There were simply ideas. He doesn’t always take everything from us every time. He is a quite fussy either now. We are hoping he will change as time goes on. In order to get him to eat, we sometimes need to show him we’re eating the food first, let him play with a bowel or a spoon, or mix the sweet stuff he likes with other food. These tricks don’t always work.

I also tried to bring over a couple of things that I think he may take, such as yogurt and hard-boiled eggs. One day Sharon tried to feed him an egg for lunch but he didn’t want it. I guess it’s not just the food but also who is doing the feeding. We realized it simply takes time for him to get used to the people there and their feeding him.

I’m glad it got a little better the last couple days. He was eating more there and had one or two bowel movements, which was a good sign. He also drinks milk out of a sippy cup. On the second day, he was sitting there doing nothing when DH arrived to pick him up. He started to join other children now. He especially loves to play outside. He didn’t even want to go home with DH one afternoon because he was having such a great time playing in the yard.

We’re having a whole new routine now. I got up sometime between 6:30 and 7am, nursed him, and prepared my breakfast. We left the house around 10 to 8am so I could stayed at the day care for about 15-20 minutes, settling him down and starting on his breakfast. I thought that would help him deal with the transition easier.

DH went to pick him up as soon as getting out of work. This was the first week so we didn’t want to pick him up too late. However, we may need to let him stay there until I get out of work a couple of times next week so DH can do something for himself sometimes.

DH has been a great help this week. He would pick Cyrus up and feed him something before I get home. Evening was the most hectic time of the day. We need to fix dinner for ourselves while feeding Cyrus. A lot of times one of us needs to feed him and the other cooks. I’ve found myself without time to sit down until Cyrus goes to bed around 8:30pm. Don’t have much time on computer either since I need to get up early next morning for work.

There are still a lot of adjustments needed to be made but we’ll deal with it one thing at a time one day at a time.
