15 months checkup
by Photobug Mom ~ November 16th, 2007. Filed under: Cyrus' growth. We took Cyrus to his 15 months checkup on Wednesday. We both left work early on that day and got to the doctor’s office on time but they still let us waited for about half an hour.
Here are Cyrus’ new stats: 22lbs and 9 oz; 31 1/8 inches tall; head measured 48cm. His weight is still around 25th percentile but his height is about average now. His head is at 75th percentile, the same as last time. I was expecting him to weigh heavier since he’s been eating a lot. Despite his finicky eating habit, he is always eating or snacking. Thus I was surprised that he is still below average. I guess he is very active and burning a lot of calories! :b Even though he is physically smaller, Sharon said he is a “roughy-toughy”. He is probably one of the youngest one at the day care but he likes to play with older children and is not afraid to fight with them for a toy. He actually was put at the “time-out” because of this. I am glad Sharon told us about this and she is educating Cyrus to share.
He had his another shot of vaccine and a flu shot. We need to take him back for another booster flu shot and he will be good until next winter. In terms of regular vaccines, he’s all up to date and won’t need another one until age 4. Whew! That is a relief to me.
We talked about his language skills. Though he hasn’t said many words, Dr. Schenk said he wasn’t worried. He though Cyrus is quite aware and social and he will eventually catch up. He gave us a suggestion of asking him to say what the thing is called before we let him have/touch the object. I am pretty casual about this but DH was a little bit concerned about his language development so he started doing what he was told, which is fine with me.
Cyrus’ first english word is “poo”. He would point at the the dirty diaper and say “poo”. If I give him the diaper, he knows to put it in the diaper champ. He seems to be a very independent child to me. He wanted to do everything himself. He loves to feed himself especially. My MIL gave us a silver baby spoon of DH’s. Unlike regular baby spoon, its handle was made like a circle for a baby’s little hand. Cyrus can’t quite use the regular baby spoon but does very well with this spoon. He can feed himself yogurt, oatmeal, and tomato sauce.
Though he’s still quite a challenge at meal time, he is gradually trying different new things. He can eat hot dogs, fish sticks, and fish bake I made. Sharon claimed that he ate frozen vegetables at day care, we haven’t had much success on this yet. He does eat tomato sauce so we try to dip other food in the tomato sauce. He also finally gets the idea of tilting the cup in order to drink the water/milk at the bottom. He emptied his bottle for the first time this morning.
His favorite activity now is fitting things together, like putting a key in the key hole or putting the lid back on the cup. I think he may be ready for the Lego but DH thinks he doesn’t quite have the strength to work with Lego just yet.
The winter has come. I bought Cyrus a pair of mittens at Target but they are too big for him. So I went to the consignment store that I’ve always gone to get another pair for him. I also ordered a pair of nice snow boots for him but he needs to get used to it. He didn’t know how to take a step with the boots on.
His sleeping routine is pretty good lately. He goes to bed around 8:30pm and can sleep until 6am the next day. It feels great to be able to sleep for a long time without hearing him crying. When he wakes up at 6, I nurse him. I nurse him again after his supper. I don’t think I have much milk left but I think he simply enjoys the comfort. Me too. I still love to hold him in my arms.
