    3 oz weight gain

    Wednesday, February 20th, 2008

We took Cyrus to his 18 months checkup last week. The stats was not very impressive. He only gained 3 oz over the past three months. >_< We weren’t not surprised by this at all. He simply wasn’t eating. His length is 32 inches, about average and his head measured about 75th percentile. No wonder it’s hard to fit clothes on him.

He was quite cooperate at the doctor’s office until the Hep A shot. When we were asking doctor questions, he flipped through a picture book and was singing/humming. He is very sensitive to music. He loves to dance with the music, any kind of music. I love watching him dancing. It brings so much joy and pride to me.

I told Doc that he knows about 20-30 words but DH immediately objected. He claimed Cyrus didn’t use all those words “frequently” and was worried about his speaking and hearing. Dr. said most of the toddlers learn most words between 18-24 months. He didn’t think Cyrus has any problems but we can check further if we don’t find the dramatic improvement between now and then. I felt almost kind of mad that DH said that. I felt he was disapproving my observation. Was it me who is too optimistic or him too pessimistic?

I would like to share some of the recent videos of Cyrus. The first one is about Cyrus wearing my slippers. He loves earing my slippers. My MIL bought him a cute little pair of toddler slippers but he still likes to wear mine. The second one was filmed last weekend. We took him out for a walk on a bright sunny day. He finally was willing to wear the sunglasses we bought for him a year ago. :)

There are more videos on my youtube page.

    18 months old!!

    Monday, February 11th, 2008

Just want to write a journal entry to mark this milestone. My boy was 18 months old yesterday!

He was still nursing, twice a day. I don’t know how much he is actually getting but it doesn’t really matter. He enjoys it and I enjoy the time holding him in my arms. (as long as it doesn’t last for more than half hour.) It’s amazing he is 18 months old already. He seems so big in my arms, yet so small. That little fragile and vulnerable infant has long gone. He is a running toddler that can talk, sing, dance, and throw temper tantrums. LOL. He is so precious!

He’s been very actively learning words. Other than those words I mentioned in the last entry, he now can say byebye, floor, apple, ravioli (oli), waffle (faffle), full, done. He keeps amazing me everyday! He is learning new words every single day!! It’s so exciting to hear him saying words!

I made this special work myself. It’s called “Happy Island: powered by renewable energy and lots of LOVE.” I wan to make more and more art works like this for my sweet Cyrus.

    Me. Not Cyrus of course.

With the tax season coming, I’m getting busy and busier at work. It’s hard to juggle between work and home and every little thing in life. Not to mention blogging. I can use 48 hours a day to cover everything I want to do and still get enough sleep for work next day.

I love my job and always feel guilty that I am not doing the best I can as a mother. I feel I’m missing out some of the most precious development and growth of my son. I even feel a little bit ashamed of myself sometimes, especially when I see how much time other mothers spend on their children.

Anyways…I am not here to ask for understanding or forgiveness. I am here to catch up with what’s going on recently in Cyrus’ life.

He caught the stomach flu three weeks ago. That night he woke up during the night and started crying. It’s not unusual for him to cry a little when he wakes up at night but that time it sounded differently. It sounded like he was in pain. DH went to check on him. Sure enough he threw up all over himself and the crib. It took us a while to clean up all the mess and changed him. He seemed a little bit pale and week. He also was quieter than usual. He only cried when he needed to puke but nothing came out. (All his dinner were out already.) He looked so innocent. Poor thing!

We followed the instruction from a nurse and only offered him Pedialite, water, crackers, and bread the next day. 24 hours later we thought to try to give him some milk again and he threw up half hour later. Thank goodness he was still nursing!

A couple days later, both DH and I caught the flu too. It was terrible. We both pucked at the same night and got so sick that we had to take a sick day from work. It’s so much work to watch a little child when both of you are sick.
