It’s been such a long time since my last update. I barely have time to sleep, not to mention writing diary. We still manage to get Cyrus out to play somewhere every weekend. We went sledding two weeks ago when my brother-in-law was visiting. That was my first time sledding and I fount it a lot of fun and much more easier than skiing. DH and I took turns sledding with Cyrus. He didn’t seem afraid, but not happy about it either. After a while he just wanted mommy to hold him. It’s a sunny day and not too cold. We also saw a deer and some ducks swimming. Cyrus got to say duck repeatedly. Hehe.
Last weekend we took him to the zoo in the city. It’s a small zoo so there weren’t many animals to begin with. It was a cold day so other than polar bear and some cold-resistant animals, most of them were inside. Don’t know if it’s because we were there so late (an hour before closing) or what, the door to the elephant house was locked. We could only see elephants through the glass. What a bummer!
As soon as we entered the zoo, we heard the loud noise sea lions were making. They were actually bigger than I thought! Cyrus was scared at first and backed away a few inches but then he gradually moving himself closer. He didn’t even want to go.
It’s a kind of depressing zoo. Animals are in the small cages. There were to giant vultures but the cage was so low they could fly nowhere. Every time they open their wings they hit something. Poor thing. We got to see lions, tigers, some parrots, frogs, snakes, and two poor little kangaroo in the dark house, looking sad and bored.
Nonetheless, Cyrus seemed to enjoy himself very much. He now learned how to say “animals” (he said amal). The day after the trip to the zoo, he saw the cow on the yogurt container and said “amal”.
It’s really a lot of fun watching him learning words.
One thing we are working on now is finding a new daycare for Cyrus. We really like the place he is at now but the old couple decided they want to retire at the end of June. I’m pretty bombed out about this. Cyrus finally got used to the place and people there and made some friends. Now we need to start all over again.
There were not many day care places in my neighborhood. Someone mentioned a Presbyterian church early childhood program but they were SO expensive, $1300 a month. We sure can’t afford that. Their hours are also not very good. We checked out the Jewish Community Center a few blocks down. They were much cheaper and seem to be pretty on top of what they are doing. The biggest drawback is that they don’t provide breakfast and lunch because they have to only handle kosher food but it’s too costly for them to buy kosher food for all children. DH and I both don’t think we can find a better place than JCC in our neighborhood so I guess pretty likely that will be Cyrus’ next day care. I will need to do some research on ways to keep food warm/cold. Cyrus is such a picky eater. Preparing his lunch is going to be a huge task for sure! I guess we just have to bite the bullet and do it.
